Bell Creek Academy
Project Overview
In June 2011, McNeal Engineering partnered with Charter School Associates to begin work on the Bell Creek Academy project. The primary goal was to develop a new charter school equipped with dedicated athletic facilities. The site originally started as a previously developed property for a Montessori School and required a significant transformation to meet the client's vision.
The development process was not without its challenges, as the team faced several environmental and infrastructural obstacles. They had to carefully navigate environmentally sensitive areas, including a creek running alongside the property, and deal with an existing grade transition. Furthermore, the development required complex off-site roadway, utility, and signalization improvements to properly support the new school.
Despite these hurdles, the project was successfully completed in September 2013. A major highlight of the project was the innovative design of an underground stormwater infrastructure system, which freed up sufficient room on the surface to accommodate the requested athletic facilities. Ultimately, the site was transformed into a fully operational charter school capable of serving 1,255 junior and senior high school students.
Key Obstacles

• Existing grade transition.
• Stormwater infrastructure (underground).
• Creek running along side the property.
• Off-site roadway, utility, and signalization requirements.
Key Highlights and Wins
